About Development Corporations

With the exception of Nunavik, the regional Inuit authorities of Inuit Nunangat have established 100% Inuit-owned Regional Development Corporations (RDCs) to pursue business development opportunities. (Within Nunavik, Makivvik serves as both the Shareholder and the business development entity.) RDCs are ‘Inuit Birthright Corporations’ that hold full, partial, or joint ownership in companies that conduct business in a range of different industries, including but not limited to mining, fisheries, transportation, construction, real estate development, retail, and health services. RDCs have a unique role in that they are mandated to benefit all Inuit residing within their respective regions. This distinguishes RDCs from other Inuit-owned businesses operating in the north.
In addition to generating monetary value for their Shareholder organizations, the mandates of the RDCs also oblige them to deliver other tangible benefits, such as employment and training opportunities to Inuit.
