About Development Corporations
The settlement of comprehensive land claim and self-government agreements within the regions of Inuit Nunangat led to the to establishment of “birthright”
Inuit development corporations that are wholly-owned by their respective regional Inuit associations/Inuit governments. These development corporations have taken on a role that is comparable to crown corporations. Unlike other kinds of Inuit-owned business, these development corporations mandated to benefit all Inuit residing within their respective regions.
In addition to generating monetary value for their shareholder organizations, the mandates of the RDCs also oblige them to deliver other tangible benefits, such as employment and training opportunities to Inuit.
